DJ Stent Removal

DJ Stent Removal

DJ Stent Removal is a straightforward procedure used to take out a previously placed double J (DJ) stent. DJ stents are thin, flexible tubes inserted into the ureter to keep it open, allowing urine to flow from the kidney to the bladder, typically after surgery or to alleviate obstruction from stones or tumors.

The removal of a DJ stent is usually done using a cystoscope. The procedure is quick, generally lasting about 10 to 20 minutes, and can often be performed under local anesthesia. During the procedure, a cystoscope is inserted through the urethra to locate and grasp the stent, which is then gently pulled out.

Patients might experience some discomfort or a burning sensation during the procedure and slight urinary irritation afterward, but these symptoms typically resolve within a few days. Most patients can return to normal activities immediately following the procedure.

DJ stent removal is necessary once the underlying issue is resolved or the stent is no longer needed. While the procedure is generally safe, it can occasionally cause complications such as urinary tract infections or minor bleeding. It’s essential to follow post-procedure care instructions provided by your healthcare provider to ensure a smooth recovery.
